Valentina Migliraini, Ph.D.
Co-Director of Global Relations
Fulbright Schuman Visiting Scholar at the University of Kansas, Department of Special Education, Migliarini’s scholarly work focuses on social justice and inclusive education and the limits of inclusion/integration as experienced by students who are multiply situated in terms of race, disability, and migration status. Specifically, she investigates how these intersections work to limit the educational trajectories and pathways of students as a result of interlocking and compounding deficit perceptions. Employing intersectionality, Dis/Crit (Dis/ability Critical Race Theory in Education), and Judith Butler's notion of subjectivation and performative politics, Migliarini’s scholarship critically examines the impact of inclusive education policies on mitigating entrenched educational inequities for refugee and asylum-seeking children in Italy/Europe.
